GFA League 2: Banjul 2-1 Serrekunda East


Banjul United on Sunday defeated Serrekunda East by 2-1 at the East mini stadium to earn their first victory in the third week of the ongoing Gambia Football Association (GFA) league 2, which kicked off late last month.
Pa Ousman Secka’s brace was enough to give the city boys, Banjul United their first three points before a consolation goal was scored by Dawda Secka of Serrekunda East in the 22nd minute making the scoreboard 2-1.
Serrekunda East are standing third to bottom of the league table with three points ahead of Starlight and Lamin United, whereas Banjul United are now with four points after they drew against Hawks in their first game and registered a victory against Serrekunda East.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Majorr Saine, the head coach of Banjul United hailed his team for collecting crucial points. “If you lead, your opponent will try to pressurise which is why the last 15 minutes was hard on my team, but nonetheless we defended well to maintain a win. Banjul United will do whatever it takes to bring the team up and be on track,” said Majorr
Nyanga Sallah, Serrekunda East’s coach felicitated his team despite two consecutive defeats. He told journalists that his boys did very well but need to improve on their frontline (Strikers).
“So far, it is bad for us, we need to rectify our mistakes to earn our wining spirit,” said Nyanga.
Banjul will now face Latrikunda United on Wednesday at KG5, Banjul and Serrekunda East to rub shoulders with their rivals, Serrekunda United the same day at the Manjai field in the fourth week.
Other scores: Tallinding 0-1 Latrikunda United, Hawks 2-2 S/K United, S/K East 1-2 Banjul united, Zycots/Sea View 1-0 Lamin United and on Monday Starlight 1-1 Nema United.
