The Gambia national team, Scorpions is lining up for an international friendly against Liberia on July 24 in Monrovia in commemoration of the 164th independence anniversary of the Republic of Liberia.
Speaking in an interview at his office, Seedy Kinteh, president of the Gambia Football Association told The Daily News Sports that the game will go a long way in helping the country to put together a solid local based team in their quest to host the Armilca Cabral (Zone 2).
The games came as result of Liberia’s invitation and are to book the tickets of 25 people from The Gambia, together with their accommodations.
“We are aiming to build a strong local base team for the coming Zone 2, which we hope to host,” he said. The competition was to be hosted by Mauritania in 2009, but was later called off due to a military coup then in the country.
According to Kinteh, the 26 players selected by head coach Paul Putt are currently training at the Brikama Box Bar every morning under the supervision of Lamin Sarr, the then coach of the U-20, as the Belgium technician is currently out of the country.
