Darbo Verbally Agrees Wigan Deal

Alieu Darbo
ByAbdoulie Nget

A Sweden-born former Gambian U-20 player, Alieu Darbo Thursday entered into a verbal agreement with English first division club, Wigan Athletic after breaking up with his former French club, Le Mans recently, according to Fotbolltransfers.com.
Darbo has over the last few months impressively trained with several English Premier League clubs including Sunderland, Scunthorpe, Newcastle and Wigan Athletic. It is now revealed that talented forward is close to signing for Wigan.
The 18-year-old Gambian who had exclusively told Ngetcell.blogspot.com he’ll never play for the Gambia after then-U20 coach, Lamin Sarr dropped him in the 2011 Orange CAF championship in Johannesburg, South Africa moved to Le Mans in the summer of 2009.
He trained with Newcastle last year and trained in January 2012 with Sunderland, Wigan and Scunthorpe.
According to British media, his impressive performance attracted several English teams.
Speaking to fotbolltransfers.com last week Darbo confirmed that he has verbally agreed to a deal with Wigan.
We agreed verbally, Robert Martinez (trainer) believes in me and [playing at] the Premier League is a great dream.
I have had problems with my knee so I will be going to Sweden soon for treatment,” said Darbo.
Speaking on a possible loan to Scunthorpe, Darboe said: “I would like to be on loan to Scunthorpe for a few months to play regularly and then be able to show my talent in the Premier League. One must have patience to be a regular player.”

International Career

Darbo had a rough road through to The Gambia football as he was left frustrated after been dropped by coach Sarr a few days before their trip to  2011 Orange CAF championship in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In an aggressive statement he said will never show-up again when needed by The Gambia, adding that he is fed up with Gambian football.

But he called it a quit in May 7 2011, saying no to Gambia football again.

Possible Return
It is still possible for the GFA and coaches to convince the promising international player to backtrack on his decision and play for his motherland. He is still young, and the GFA as well as the sports ministry always express interest in grassroots players and Darbo can be seen as one who is fit for the Gambia in their bid to make it to the next AFCON and World Cup.
