Sabackh Sanjal district football championship got underway last weekend. This is the third edition of this inter village football championship with a strong following.
Ten teams are in the fray this year namely Yallal Bah, Kani Kunda, Sara Kunda, Bambali, Ngayen Sanjal, Dibba kunda, Mbappa, Sabach, Sankalang and Kunjo.
Mod Ceesay, the area councillor of Sabach and a member of the organising committee said the tournament is progressing without any hitches and he was expecting another successful championship.
Three matches have so far been played with Bambali beating Ngayen Sanjal, 2-0 as Kani Kunda drew 0-0 with Sara Kunda at Njabo. Ngayen Sanjal however recovered their courage and returned to see off Dibba Kunda 1-0.
The tournament continues this weekend with Mbappa, Sabach, Sankalang, Yallal Bah, and Kunjo, in Group B, playing at Sabach, and Yallal football fields.
The tournament, which aims at promoting sports in the area is partly sponsored by Ousman Bah, the National Assembly Member for Sabach Sanjal.
